Pamela Rice

Most would agree that to stage a a VEGGIE PRIDE PARADE NYC , complete with post-parade:

  • rally
  • expo,
  • costume contest,
  • mock wedding, and
  • music festival, all chronicled in a
  • nifty souvenir program guide,
would be a massive undertaking of planning and organization.

On Sunday, May 18, 2008, and Sunday, May 17, 2009, New York City was in fact host to such an event. And as for the planning and organization: That fell to the shoulders of one individual, Pamela Rice.

For her efforts, Ms. Rice was able to pay herself a modest consulting fee of only a few thousand dollars out of the coffers of the VivaVegie Society, the non-profit group under whose auspices the parade came forth. For all that she put into the project (read on, below, for a complete list), this amount was far short of a fair rumuneration. (Ms. Rice put literally hundreds and hundreds of hours into the project.) The work-to-compensation shortfall was quite frankly extreme. To make up for the income dearth on the first go-round, Ms. Rice naturally had to work long hours on the side to keep up with her freelance graphic design business.
